Just when I was starting to feel good about my subscriber count. Jesus, some of these guys are raking it in. Clearly the best growth advice is 'be an industry publication'.
This is an awesome list of tips and some really inspiring stats! Just starting to hit my stride with my own political newsletter now...definitely important to have a thick skin. Keeps things interesting, though.
Hi, interesting and useful article and research, thanks. However, I’m pretty disappointed to see very few Substacks by women featured. In fact, almost all are by men! There are loads of successful newsletters that women write - it seems odd that so few are featured in your round up.
Really liked this one. Recurring theme seems to be writing high-quality stuff - if you write it, they will come. Also liked your summary of “be a famous blogger before you start a Substack.” I bet that works pretty well too, but I’m sticking with my original plan of quality writing.
Nice compilation. Substack publishes lots of tips as well. Embrace the serendipity of this journey.

It might have been Scott Alexander's publication that alerted me to you.
Good research.
Thanks for putting this together! Lots of great writers to learn from!
Thanks for the mention! We're actually about to hit 8K paying subscribers...

Note to self. Do this. :).
Running several subscription businesses over the years has really helped me understand how healthy churn can be. I think that's true here as well.
